The Barcelona star reached the landmark in Wednesday's clash with Sporting Gijon and has now hit the net 13 times in his last 12 matches in all competitions
Lionel Messi reached a personal milestone on Wednesday evening as he scored his 300th La Liga goal for Barcelona. The 28-year-old struck in the Liga clash with Sporting Gijon at the Estadio El Molinon to bring up an incredible triple century of goals for the Catalans.
Messi, who has been in impressive form in 2016 scoring 13 times in 12 games since the turn of the year, has taken a little over 10 years to hit the 300 mark, with his first strike coming back in 2005 in a 2-0 win over Albacete.
With his strike against Sporting, Messi has moved onto 438 career goals for the Catalans - by comparison, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 246 La Liga goals for Real Madrid, and 345 overall for Los Blancos.
Messi had the opportunity to hit his latest milestone in Sunday's demolition of Celta Vigo, but opted instead to pass his penalty to Luis Suarez who rolled the ball home.
The Argentine instead racked up his 300th Liga goal with a typically wonderful strike from open play - which may have been what Ronaldo was alluding to prior to Wednesday's game.
Messi is now an incredible 110 goals clear of Cesar Rodriguez, who sits in second place in Barcelona's all-time leading scorer charts, and has netted more times than the third and fourth ranked players combined!
